People of Patar
The people of Patar Bolinao are very peaceful, friendly and fun loving. Most of them work as fishermen and farmers with a growing number of tourism based employees.
It is said that people form Pangasinan in general are frugal but can be extravagant during necessary occasions such as fiestas, birthdays, baptisms, and weddings. They are deeply religious and generally observe catholic and Christian beliefs. Official Town Fiestas are on the 3rd week of April, July 25 (bolinao foundation day), and the Mangunguna Festival.
They are also very hospitable in a nature. Don’t be surprised if locals invite you for a drink or some food when they meet you, it is just the polite way to treat guests in Patar. If you come into eye contact with someone you met while he or she is eating or drinking , they will almost always offer you some food or drink.
Local business includes salt making , basket weaving, shell craft, Buri mat weaving, wood crafts and a growing tourism sector. Specialty food in the Patar is Bangus, Bagoon, Bamboo Rice, Cake, Padas (Clear Bagoong Isda) Dried Fish Dishes, Shrimps, Crabs, Mussels and other seafood.
Language
The people of Patar Bolinao speak Tagalog, Ilocano and a native Language called Bolinao. As with the rest of the Philippines, English is a language spoken and understood by most locals. As with many parts of the Philippines, even if fluency in spoken English not practiced, it is generally understood and is the main language for education. Generally, it should be very easy to get around using Tagalog, Ilocano, or English as your primary language.
