The Caves of Patar Bolinao
One unique thing about Patar Bolinao is the presence of caves with natural crystal clear fresh spring water that is great for a refreshing swim. Because of the unique landscape of the area, we would not be surprised if there are a few more undiscovered caves in the vicinity. For visitors however, there are 3 Caves that you can visit for a little spelunking and swimming. It is advised that you were slippers or aqua socks to avoid being cut by the stones when exploring the caves of Patar.
Enchanted Cave – Is a cave that can be found while travelling Patar Beach Road. It has an entrance fee depending if you are swimming or not. Enchanted Cave is one of the more popular caves in the area because some local movies were shot inside the cave. They have turned the area into a small whimsical park wherein one can rent benches for a picnic or simply to hang around.
Wonderful Cave – Is run by a local family and is one of the favorite destination. This is a smaller cave but has the same cool spring water than runs inside. Because a family that lives there runs it, the cave seems a little bit less commercialized than Enchanted Cave. A special feature of the cave is a hidden cave that can be found when swimming in the cave.
Cindy’s Cave – What makes this cave special is that it has a bit shallow water so if there are kids, or if you want to just wade in the water, this cave may be more enjoyable. You can actually walk across the cave in waist high water and just sit around and enjoy the cool water.
IMPORTANT: The best time to visit any of these three caves is when it is not peak season (such as summer and Christmas season) or weekdays so you can have them all to yourself. Once must understand that these are rather small caves and with droves of tourists, it does become crowded and the novelty of visiting the caves somewhat wears out. However, If timed properly, you can have a great experience in any of these caves and it can be a great experience that can be cherished forever.
